Extended Biography

 

Born in 1959, Massimo Pastore is a percussionist in the greater meaning. Graduated with full marks at Ferrara’s Music Conservatorium, specialized on Percussion at Jutland's Academy (Denmark) with Gert Mortensen and Einar Nielsen, he is an internationally qualified performer since 1986, having played in many European countries (with Royal Orchestra of Denmark and Wiener Akademie amongst others) with a repertory ranging from Baroque Music to Contemporary Classical Music.

Since 1989 he leads the “Nuovo Gruppo Italiano di Percussioni”, with whom he has played many concerts and many recordings, with directors Laslo Heltay, Thomas Dausgaard, Antonio Ballista, Sergio Balestracci with composers Ennio Morricone, Giovanni Bonato, Vladimir Mendelssohn.

He plays as soloist and timpanist with “Civica Orchestra di Fiati di Padova

From 1991 to 2002 was been teacher and concert player at International Course of Summer Festival of Portogruaro; from 2004 at “Musical Holidays” at Sappada; on 2005 and 2006 at “Musical Courses for Percussion and Wind Instruments” at Spilimbergo; from 2007 at Udine.

He played also with performers like Marta Argerich, Raymond Gujot, Astor Piazzolla, Gert Mortensen, Ney Rosauro.

His solistic repertoire and recording includes music of Keiko Abe, John Beck, Stefano Bellon, Giovanni Bonato, Klaus Peter Bruckman, Paul Creston, Gordon Jacob, Askell Masson, Minoru Miki, Alfred Reed, Ney Rosauro, Yoshioka Takayoshi, Tsuneya Tanabe, Yannis Xenakis.

As Orchestra’s Conductor worked with Ney Rosauro, Jim Snidero and at “Porsche” Jazz Festival of Padova with Gianni Basso, Marco Tamburini and Massimo Colombo Trio. He conducted Edgar Varese’s “Ionisation”.

Since 1992 teaches percussion instruments at Padova’s Music Conservatorium and he is conducting the Art Percussion Ensemble from 1997.

He teaches academic courses of music-therapy in collaboration with Padova University and was guest percussion teacher in 2007 and 2009 at University of Macedonia at Saloniki (Greece), in 2010 at Music Academy of Krakow (Poland) and was invited in 2008 at International Percussion Festival at Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen. In 2013 held masterclass at Conservatorio Superior de Musica of Valencia, in 2014 at “Janacek” Akademy of Brno (CZ), in 2015 at Music Akademy of Riga (Latvia), in 2016 at Music Academy of Lodz and 2017 at "Mimar Sinan" University of Istanbul. From 2012 to 2014 was been teacher at European Project for percussion ASTAPER of Krakow (Poland); in 2015 at SMUG project (SAMPL-lab) for the promotion of Contemporary music conducting music of Nono, Varèse, Stockhausen, Grisey and Xenakis; in 2016 took part in the Third Percussion Festival at Gdansk (PL).
